모사드(Mossad)

"기만에 의하여 전쟁을 수행한다”(By way of deception, thou shalt do war). 

손자병법을 연상케 하는 이 구절은 이스라엘의 전설적인 국가 정보기관 모사드의 모토다.

이스라엘의 정보공동체는 해외정보를 담당하는 모사드, 국내보안을 담당하는 신베트, 
군사정보를 담당하는 아만, 외무부 산하의 정치기획·조사센터, 내무부 산하의 경찰 등으로 구성되었다. 
그리고 정보공동체를 조정하는 기관으로는 최고정보조정위원회(Va’adat Rashei Hasherutim)가 있다. 
여기에는 각 정보기관의 책임자와 총리의 정보·군사·정치·대테러대책 고문이 참석한다. 의장은 모사드 부장이 맡고 있다.

모사드의 정식명칭은 ‘ha Mossad le Modiinule Tafkidim Meyuhadim’ 으로
정보 및 특수임무 연구소로 번역할 수 있다. 
모사드는 이스라엘의 정보·보안체계에서 해외정보를 담당하며, 주로 인간정보(Humint)와 비밀공작(Covert Action), 대테러활동(Counterterrorism) 등의 임무를 수행한다. 
본부는 텔아비브에 위치하고 있으며, 요원 수는 1980년대 후반의 평가에 의하면 1500∼2000명이었으나 최근의 자료는 1200명이라 평가하고 있다. 한편 전직 모사드 요원이었던 빅터 오스트로브스키는 전 세계적으로 모사드가 고용한 
에이전트는 3만5000명이며 이 가운데 2만 명은 활동중이고 1만5000명은 활동하지 않는다고 주장한다. 

먼저 모사드의 작전부서에는 수집국과 정치활동연락국, 심리전국(LAP)국 등의 부서로 구성되어 있다. 
수집국은 가장 규모가 큰 부서로 해외첩보수집을 담당한다. 
수집국은 A·B·C의 3개실을 가지고 있으며, 각 실은 지역과와 해외지부를 관리한다. 
정치활동연락국은 우호국의 정보기관과 정보교환업무를 담당하며, 외교관계가 없는 국가와의 접촉 및 연락업무를 수행한다. 심리전국은 모사드의 심리전, 선전, 기만작전을 담당하고 있다.
모사드의 작전부서 중 챠프리림(Tsafririm)은 전 세계에 있는 유대인과의 연락을 담당한다.

야할로민(Yahalomin)과는 특별통신부대로 이스라엘의 적대국에서 활동하는 첩자들과 통신을 담당하고 있다. 
네비오트(Neviot)는 정해진 목표물에 대한 도청 등을 전문적으로 담당하는 부서다. 
그리고 모사드 내부보안을 담당하는 부서로 APM이 있다.

지원부서 중 가장 중요한 곳은 분석국이다. 수집된 첩보를 정보화하는 역할을 담당하며 구체적으로 일일보고서, 주간동향보고서, 월간보고서 등을 제작한다. 연구국은 14개의 지역과와 핵담당과로 구성되어 있다. 
기술국은 모사드의 작전을 지원하기 위한 최첨단의 기술과 장비를 개발하는 업무를 담당한다. 
이밖에 모사드의 비밀공작을 담당하는 독립부서인 메차다(Metsada)는 
암살, 사보타주, 준군사적 활동을 수행하는 핵심부서다. 
특히 메차다 휘하에는 암살을 전문적으로 수행하는 키돈(Kidon)과가 활동하고 있다.

히브리어로 위 혹은 정상을 의미하는 알(Al)은 미국 내에서 비밀리에 첩보활동을 벌이는 모사드의 특수부서다. 
오스트로브스키에 따르면 모사드 내에서도 알의 존재를 아는 사람은 극히 드물 만큼 조직 자체도 독립적이라고 한다. 
3명의 카트사(Katsas:정보관)를 포함한 24∼27명의 현장요원으로 구성되어 있다고 한다.

Father, Donald P. Bellisario, wrote a "Quantum Leap" (1989) episode called "A Portrait for Troian" which aired in 1989, when Troian was four. Troian's mother, Deborah Pratt, played Troian in the episode.

Is step-sister of Sean Murray, who plays Agent Tim McGee on NCIS, and has appeared several times as Sarah McGee, Tim McGee's sister.
